From Dry January to Birthday Toasts: A Year of Mindful Moments

EEEEKKKK! TODAY IS MY 25TH BIRTHDAY!! HAPPY QUARTER-CENTURY TO ME! What a wonderful day this is going to be… I’m actually writing this the night before, because I have such a busy day planned for myself. My day will start bright and early at 4 a.m. (Yes, that may seem a little extreme on my birthday, but I get to finally go hiking!). I also have roller-skating planned, followed by a nice little dinner.

What’s even more exciting is that I am hosting my very own 6-course dinner party on Saturday with a group of my sweet, lovely friends! The prep for this dinner party has been a bit of a nightmare, but it will all be worth it in the end. All the dishes I’m cooking are from my childhood, and I’m so happy I get to share them with people I love.

I can’t help but always think of my dad when I cook. I used to stand in my kitchen for five hours after school, prepping meals. It’s something my dad did all throughout my childhood. He would even have his laptop at the dining table, watching a show or playing a game. I’m even sitting at my dining table right now, while my cake cools, mirroring my dad and feeling as happy as can be. I really do miss him.

Now, some quick updates: I completed Dry January, meaning every mistake I made this month was done so sober… It’s hard when you can’t use alcohol as an excuse sometimes. I immediately drank on February 1st and felt like ass the next day—my fingers were swollen, and my body was achy. So, I’ve decided that in 2025, I’ll only drink on special occasions, and not just because I feel like it. It’s so easy to fall into the habit of drinking and constantly feeling like shit without even realizing it’s from the drinking.

Now you may be wondering… will I be drinking for my birthday? Yes, yes I will! I even have a special cocktail planned for my dinner party. But other than that, I don’t plan on drinking again until I’m on a beach for a bachelorette trip. So, hopefully, my drinking will stay to a once-a-month maximum this year
